So there’s this guy that criticized the status quo in MMO
- Monthly Fees
- The reliance on Aggro (and by extension, the holy trinity)
- Button mashing
- Static Worlds
- Stupid rules that get in the way of playing with friends
Seems reasonable to me. Those are at least some of the things that I’m getting a little tired of. So what if the example he used were drawn from WoW. The same applies to every other triple-A MMO. Sure there might be exceptions where a game breaks one or a few of those trends.
Then there’s this other guy. Apparently, he used to fight the power and rant and rave about all sorts of problems in MMOdom. I don’t know, really: I’m not that ancient.
Well, apparently, the second dude doesn’t like the first dude ranting. The second dude says that there are in fact games that may, individually, do a few things differently, sometimes, assuming you don’t mind the limitations of those other games and you’re into whatever genre / IP they happen to be using.
I know nobody1 does sarcasm like you do, but when did you decide to support the status quo?

1 In the MMO blogosphere, anyway.
