Maple Story Murder

Real life divorces can be virtual murder. According to this AP story, a woman undergoing a divorce pwned her husband’s Maple Story character.

The woman, who is jailed on suspicion of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating electronic data, used his identification and password to log onto popular interactive game “Maple Story” to carry out the virtual murder in mid-May, a police official in northern Sapporo said on condition of anonymity, citing department policy.

And you guys once thought I was too mean for wanting to put up a sign by a house letting everyone know the owner of the house had stolen it from our virtual city.

Wow, 5 years in jail for hacking. The sad thing is, she probably would have gotten the same amount of prison time if she had *really* killed him and used a crazy defense.

Well, 5 years is the max… I’d doubt she’d get the max sentence for something this “frivolous.” Still, it’s interesting to think of real-life responses to game actions.

This is why you don’t get to know my passwords ;)
