I see we have been tagged by The Gaming Bitch with the latest “tell us 5 things we don’t know” meme. Clearly, that leaves me with only one course of action — I must answer before Tuebit, so that I can deplete 5 names from our blogroll pool and make it harder for him!
As an aside, I find the lineage of this interesting, staying purely in the MMO discussion strata:
Raph Koster tags Broken Toys tags Mythical Blog tags MMODig tags Gaming Bitch tags WorldIV — and there is some interesting genealogy of the whole thing here.
- I am insanely phobic of stinging insects. At the beginning of a new spring/summer cycle, I have been known to shriek like a small girl and bolt in pure panic. Once in high school, while visiting a state park with my girlfriend and the regular gang of friends, someone stepped on a yellowjacket nest. As people started exclaiming such insightful comments as, “Ow! I just got stung,” I was busily sprinting in a blind panic down a twisting forest path. 1.5 miles later, I stopped. As far as I’m aware, I’ve never run a contiguous mile at any other point in my life. What a wonderful way to assert my protective masculinity. And to make things more unusual, I’m not particularly afraid of the pain of being stung — it seems to be the insects themselves. I’ve never actually been stung.
- I am, as the saying goes, the milkman’s son. No, really. My father was a milkman. No illicit hanky-panky is involved. My predilection for larger-than-average quantities of dairy products continues to this day.
- I didn’t get my driver’s license until I was 23. There was no point, really, as I couldn’t afford a car until after I graduated from college.
- I never played EverQuest. I had my run-in with a little game called KoBra MUD, and I knew what MMOs would do to me. The savvy among you may notice the link between KoBra, and the MMO I would eventually cut my teeth on. (I DID beta EverQuest Online Adventures, which was the most disappointing beta I ever got into. Not that it wasn’t fun and interesting, but I was sure hoping that mailer from Sony was SWG beta. And I eventually tried EQ2.)
- I meant to study music in college. I was even accepted to the University of Miami, despite my questionable talents in the area. However, economic reality reared its ugly head, and Computer Engineering at the state university it was!
